Al Ain, commonly known as the Garden City, is the fourth
largest city in United Arab Emirates. It is situated
100 miles from Abu Dhabi. Al Ain is a tourist attraction
not only for foreign visitors, but locals too. It is
the hot favorite Abu Dhabi tourist destination
for weekend getaways.
Al Ain records extremly high temperatures during the summers, but the dry air
is a welcome change from the coastal humidity. The city
is surrounded by huge sand dunes and is overlooked by
a spectacular mountain range.
Al Ain boasts of being home to several Abu
Dhabi attractions and archaeological sites. The
Al Ain National Museum gives us insights into the tormented
history of Abu
Dhabi. The Hili Archaeological Garden features archaeological
finds of a Bronze Age settlement dating back to 2500
- 2000 BC. Al Ain Old Prison offers the best views of
the city and its surrounding oasis.
Other attractions at Al Ain include Al Jahili Fort,
which was once home to the late ruler Sheikh Zayed bin
Sultan Al Nahyan, and Al Ain Zoo and Aquarium, which
is home to a wide variety of wildlife species.
Al Ain is the most fertile region in the country. It
features impressive palm plantations and carefully maintained
parks and walkways. No visit to Abu Dhabi is complete
without a visit to the city of Al Ain.
