Wildlife in Abu Dhabi is not as wide-ranging as other
parts of the United Arab Emirates. However, certain
parts of Abu Dhabi are prefect for breeding of wild
animals and birds.
A lagoon complex situated in the northeastern side of Abu Dhabi's main city
has a variety of low-lying islands. The bounteousness
of nature is remarkably apparent here, making it a great
place for thriving of wildlife in Abu Dhabi.
Comprising inter-tidal muddy terrains, sea-grass beds, coral reefs and mangroves,
this area is considered to be ecologically very sensitive.
Not many tourists and locals have been to this region.
Hence, it is relatively undisturbed and thus furthers
the growth of Abu Dhabi's wildlife.
The inter-tidal mudflats present in this region are great allures for migratory
birds. They make a stopover here on their way to warmer
territories.
The Al Ain Zoo is
one of the most ideal places to have a close look at
wildlife in Abu Dhabi. Located in the oasis of Al
Ain, this zoo is considered to be amongst the best
in the world.
A perfect picnic stop, or weekend getaway, this zoo has the spectacular Jebel
Hafeet as its backdrop. Right in the middle of the
desert lies this verdant green zone that is home to
numerous birds and animals of Abu Dhabi.
The animals here are kept in landscaped enclosures, which are separated from
visitors by moats. This 'open zoo' concept has led to
a feeling of communion with nature for both, animals
and visitors.
The Arabian Oryx, gazelles, flamingoes, eagles, vultures, falcons, lions, chimpanzees,
and many other forms of wildlife are on display in the
Al Ain Zoo. Do not miss a visit to this place if you
wish to learn about wildlife in Abu Dhabi.
