Al Fahidi fort is one of the oldest buildings of Dubai. Year 1799 marked its formation. Al Fahidi fort was the home of the ruler, whereas hiding place for common people in case of war and attack. In the year 1894, fire destroyed Deira completely. This destruction is followed
by construction of buildings by richer people using
coral stone and gypsum, whereas people with lower income
constructed huts or Barastis using palm fronds.
