Al Fahidi Fort is one of the most popular sightseeing
spots in Dubai, housing the famous Dubai
Museum. Built in 1799 AD, Al-Fahidi Fort is believed
to be oldest building in Dubai. The fort was originally
built for sea defense, but it has since been used for
various purposes such as a jail, an ammunition store,
emir residence and the seat of government.
Al Fahidi Fort has been housing the Dubai Museum since
1970. The museum displays a fine collection of artifacts
covering every aspect of emirate's colorful history
and culture. Exhibitions offer visitors a good insight
into desert life, depicting traditional Arab homes,
mosques, fishing, pearl diving and trade. There are
various sections in the museum with one section displaying
collection of knives, swords and other weaponry, while
other a collection of musical instruments.
One of the main highlights at Dubai Museum is an exhibit
featuring artifacts from excavated graves, which are
as old as 5,000 years old. A trip to Dubai is not complete
without visiting the Al Fahidi Fort. For more information
