A progressive emirate in the Middle East, Qatar is part of the Arabian Peninsula.

Spread across 11,437 square kilometers, Qatar forms
a peninsula that juts about 160 kilometers into the

During winter months - November to May - temperatures

Qatar gained independence from British rule on 3rd September, 1971. Since then,
it has carved a niche of its own in the Middle Eastern
region, declining an amalgamation into the United Arab
Emirates or Saudi Arabia.
Fishing and pearling were the main revenue generators in Qatar for ages. After
the discovery of oil reserves in the 1940s, the nation's
economy was completely transformed, and this led to
a rise in people's standard of living.
Expatriates form the majority of Qatar's population. Most of the Qataris profess
the religion of Islam and the official language here
is Arabic. Various other ethnic communities also inhabit
the country.
