When Doha was chosen as the host of Asian games many countries felt that the selection of Doha was due to Qatar's strong economy. But Qatar had a strong support from west Asian countries.

Forty-five counties participated in the Doha Asian Games. The ceremony was opened by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on December 1 at the famous Khalifa International Stadium. The Opening Ceremony was one of the most stunning sport event ceremony.

The 15th Doha Asian Games has not only put Qatar on the sports map but has also promoted sports in Qatar. Around 10,500 athletes contested in 39 different sports event.

China won the gold medal at the Doha Asian Games. The last medal tally showed that China had won 165 gold medals. Japan came second with 58 gold medals and total of 168 medals. Japan got the bronze medal for winning 50 gold medals. The host of Doha Asian Games secured the ninth position with 9 gold medals. The closing ceremony of Doha Asian Games was held on 15 December

Doha Asian Games was one of the best multi-sport event that was organized in Qatar. Doha Asian Games has set a new standard in terms of planning the event. It wouldn't surprise anyone if Doha is again chosen the host for Asian games after few years.
