Camel racing in Qatar is the most popular sport among
all other Sports in Qatar. Camel racing
started in 1972 with only 300 participants, races were
held to increase the enthusiasm and awareness about
the sport.
The Camel Race Committee is responsible for events and occurrences of camel racing in Qatar. The traditional sport showcases the beautiful heritage and culture of Qatar.
With each passing race the number of participants of camel racing in Qatar multiplies. The sport attracts a large number of participants and spectators, the spectators comprise not only locals but tourists from various parts of the world. Many events of camel racing in Qatar are held on Al Shahaniyah racetrack which has 6, 8 and 10-km race categories. The auditorium features a large terrace, a veterinary clinic and many other facilities for camels. The first ever camel racetrack to have been built in Qatar is the one at Al Abgah but soon the number of participants increased beyond its capacity.
Camel racing in Qatar also includes a special race known
as the Challenge Race. The camels race for about 10
kilometers. The race was introduced to increase the
enthusiasm and the popularity of camel racing in Qatar.
