    Qatar Airways

National airline of Qatar, Qatar Airways is based at the Doha International Airport. Considered to be one of the fastest growing airlines of the world, Qatar Airways has extended its worldwide network quite commendably.

Qatar Airways is one of the four airlines to have gained the status of 'five star airline' from Skytrax, a premium research company dealing in commercial airlines. Qatar Airways is also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization.

Established in November 1993, Qatar Airways started operations in January 1994. Members of the royal family were the initial owners of this airline. Under the leadership of Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways was relaunched in April 1997. Since then, it has been jointly owned by the Qatar government and private investors.

Qatar Airways operates the biggest number of flights to Qatar. It is the prime connecting link for getting into Qatar using air travel. Its airline network now reaches more than 70 international destinations, spread across all corners of the globe.

The fleet of Qatar Airways is one of the youngest in the region. By the year 2015, it is expected to have as many as 110 aircrafts. Qatar Airways has made a special name for itself in the global market because of its specialized service and in-flight facilities.

Qatar Airways was the first world airline to beam live digital satellite television channels directly to all its passengers. It was also the first one to pass IATA's stringent safety audit, something which even the most popular of airlines could not manage to do. Qatar Airways is the third largest operator of the Airbus A330, one of the most magnificent plane models.

The first class and business class lounges on flights operated by Qatar Airways are simply opulent, and provide luxury services for relaxation of its passengers.

Qatar Airways was the official carrier of the Doha Asian Games, an international sporting event held in the capital city in the month of December 2006.
