Most of the modes of public transportation in Qatar are owned by a company called Mowasalat. In the month of October 2005, bus service was started in Qatar. These buses are mostly used by locals and are not really advised for tourists.

Ticket prices for buses in Qatar start from QR 2. These buses take passengers to almost all the popular tourist destinations of Qatar, including Al Ruwais, Dukhan and Umm Said.

Taxis are the most convenient and reasonable modes of local transportation in Qatar. These taxis can be found at all the prime tourist spots around the country. In a taxi you can relax and enjoy a view of popular Qatar attractions as the driver hobnobs on the streets. There are two types of taxis in Qatar - green and orange. Rates are about QR 1 per kilometer of travel.

There are a number of private limousine rental companies that offer cars on hire for local transport in Qatar. Driving around Qatar is extremely difficult, especially for novices. The traffic here is bad and drivers worse.

Do not venture out on the roads alone if you have come to Qatar for the first time. Traffic rules are almost non-existent, there are very few stoplights and people are not interested in any sort of adjustment on the roads.
