Wildlife in Qatar


Wildlife in Qatar is fascinating in its own unique way. There are very few species of flora and fauna present here. However, these few numbers are quite captivating for wildlife enthusiasts who can be seen in this country in good numbers.

Qatar is surrounded on three sides by the pristine waters of the Arabian Gulf. The terrains here are mainly flat and rocky, with a few prominent hills sprinkled here and there. The geography of Qatar is diverse and has features like saline and swampy mud flats, rocky hills, sand dunes, et al.

Arid Climate in Qatar


Wildlife in Qatar is found in accordance with a particular region's climate and location. As the country has an arid climate with hot conditions prevalent most times of the year, it is frequented by a number of migratory birds coming from extreme cold conditions.

Oryx, the national animal, is the most popular part of wildlife in Qatar. The Oryx Farm and Equestrian Club is the place where this rare animal can be easily found.

The unblemished waters of Arabian Gulf are home to a varied species of marine life. Snorkeling and scuba diving are the best ways of exploring this form of wildlife in Qatar. Dugongs, dolphins, goatfish, sharks, lizard fish, small fishes and seabirds can be found here in profusion.

Flora and Fauna in Qatar


A variety of sub-tidal flora and fauna species can also be found in the country. Mollusca are the most common spotting of wildlife in Qatar along the east and west coast of the Gulf. Sand dunes, tidal sand flats and lagoons in Qatar are resting spots for flamingoes and other wading birds.
